Jas Shaw ha deciso di realizzare questo trittico di EP per rilasciare parecchia musica prodotta durante il 2020 tra pandemia ed isolamento post operatorio. “Sollbruchstelle I – Become The Scenic Route” è già fuori dal 25 Febbraio, gli altri due capitoli saranno fuori il 26 Marzo e 23 Aprile, mentre il gran finale con il vinile è fissato al 7 Maggio. Il tutto avviene via Delicacies, la label di cui è fondatore insieme a James Ford l’altra metà dei Simian Mobile Disco. Sollbruchstelle in tedesco significa “punto di rottura” e nasce durante l’isolamento in una stanza che Shaw, causa malattia, ha dovuto affrontare… realizzando però qualcosa incredibilmente profondo e intimo nella sua atmosfera creata con questo sistema:
“This album both is and isn’t acoustic. There are no actual instruments being played, but electronic noises were recorded as if live instruments, and a piano was used as an ‘unplugged’ amplifier/effects unit.’ I made a system where I could play the synth sounds and send them to Exciters, which are small flat speakers without a cone that you fix onto a surface, which effectively then becomes part of the speaker itself,” Shaw explains in a statement. “I attached the Exciter to the soundboard of my piano, which gave natural amplification and added the instrument’s acoustics – all of which was then recorded through various microphones in different positions. It was very Heath Robinson.”
